VMware to Proxmox Migration

Move VMware ESXi / vSphere VMs to Proxmox VE with warm migration. Makus Systems, a Proxmox Authorized Reseller, handles assessment, design, migration and support.

How long are services down during the move?

Warm migration copies disks while the VM runs; the VM is shut down once at cutover and started on Proxmox VE. Actual downtime depends on VM size and change rate, and we estimate it per VM during assessment.

Is Proxmox VE really free of license fees?

Proxmox VE is open source (AGPLv3) with no per-socket or per-core fee. For production we recommend a subscription with the enterprise repository and vendor support, which we supply as an authorized reseller.

Can we keep our current VMware servers?

Most x86 servers run Proxmox VE as is. We check RAID controllers, NICs and shared storage during assessment and plan phased replacement where needed.

Can Windows VMs be moved too?

Yes. Both Windows and Linux VMs are migrated. For Windows we install VirtIO drivers for disk and network performance and verify network settings carry over.

How are backup and operations handled afterwards?

Backup is set up with Proxmox Backup Server, Veeam or NAKIVO. Multiple clusters are run from one screen with MOAVI, and Makus Systems keeps supporting you after the move.

What about Hyper-V or Nutanix?

Yes. MOAVI also migrates from Hyper-V, Nutanix and XCP-ng to Proxmox VE.
